No error given but AVI files come up as just a storyboard of X's

Using Windows 7 - 64 bit Home - Windows Live Movie Maker comes up a storyboard of broken image X's when I import the AVI files I just got off my camera.
 I can watch the videos on my computer but can't do anything with them in WLMM OR WMM 2.6 (AVI comes
up broken and it just crashes when I click anything).
 I can open other files in WLMM but not the AVI.
 Even tried restarting computer and still can't do anything with the two files I want to edit.
 I've tried to find the solution by Googling the issue but
since it gives no actual error code I can't find much.
 

Can anyone help?

See if it is a problems with Codecs.
 
Can you get to the "Options" button at the foot of the main window where you add files?  If you can, and if you click on that you will see a Compatibility tab, which lists any codecs that you use, and also a Restore Defaults button.   Is there any AVI Compressor
listed in there?   Read the instructions there for things to try.

How to Fix No error given but AVI files come up as just a storyboard of X's with SmartPCFixer?
